5 Amazing Tips For Looking Fabulous in Your Wedding Photos!

RELAX & LAUGH.  Remember we are our own worst critics.  I guarantee that no one sees the things you do not like about yourself.  When you are self conscious about those minute things they are accentuated. Watch “Bridesmaids” as you get ready so you can laugh and start the day with happiness & a smile.  Maybe a little Irish Coffee too:)

PREPARE.  Great pictures are the result of great forethought… Work thru all the details of your look by doing a test run of everything: hair, make up, poses (not kidding…get out the full length mirror and see how you look your best…all the actresses do this before they hit the red carpet, why shouldn’t you?) See what angle your face looks best, what makes your arms look best {hint: usually not pressed against your sides}, etc.  There is nothing worse on the day of your wedding than deciding you do not like what the make up artist has done…it will ruin your pictures.  Additionally, if you are watching the weather and you know there is a chance of rain think: boots, umbrellas, organic coverings, etc.  for your pics…you will love the results!

FIND THE LIGHT.  “Alright Mr. DeMille, I am ready for my close up” Gloria Swanson & all those gorgeous actresses in Hollywood know the single best secret to flawless skin…GREAT LIGHT.   Pimples?  No problem.  Frown lines? No problem.  Wrinkles?  No problem.  Find the light and you will find your best friend.  If your picture is being taken, try to find the biggest light source and cheat your face toward it.  If it is a window to the left, cheat your face that way to fill the lines and flatten the bumps.  Now that I told you this be aware of light…look in the mirror to see the difference when the light is coming from above {eww} or flanking your mirror {fabulous}.  You will love me for this.

Remember, this may mean you must move a mirror in front of a window, like below….

STEAL IDEAS FROM THE BEST.  Pull pics from magazines that look like what you want from your wedding pics…see how the girl in the picture is standing, her attitude, what she is conveying with her eyes and body language.  If you love the old trunk prop, find one and bring it to your reception venue so you can utilize it for pictures.  Don’t be shy…this is your day make it what you want it to be.

The #1 way to look amazing in your wedding photos, DO AN ENGAGEMENT SHOOT!  Easy…right?  An engagement shoot is the best test run there is.  It is a great opportunity to get beautiful pictures of yourselves, see how you look best in front of the camera & practice for the big day.  And unlike your wedding day, you do not need to concern yourself with other people.  There is no wedding party waiting, there are no guests to greet, you can just relax and have fun and think of nothing but looking fabulous!!   So order up an e-shoot (photographer lingo for engagement shoot), brainstorm some ideas with us, put on a hot little dress & have some fun.

Feel free to skip this part just a little aside e-shoot story.  Once there was a handsome groom, who shall remain nameless (but you know who you are).  He was so extremely anxious about the way he looked in pictures and had NO desire to be in front of the camera.  But he had a brilliant fiancé who thought it best that they do an engagement shoot to work thru some of his nerves.  Well, our groom arrived at our beautiful location with two beers in his fists and downed them in minutes.  A half an hour in, he had had  a couple more {funny, but true}.  At any rate, Tyler did his thing and taught them a couple modeling tricks, spent time getting to know them, snapped some great pics & most importantly… had fun.  A week later, when they got the gallery, the brilliant fiancée called me as soon as I opened the door to our office and said “Oh my God, we have been picking our favorite images all morning, we are at 250 and haven’t even gotten thru the gallery yet!!”  She went on to tell us her fiancé was soo pleased with the pictures, he was overjoyed {& shocked}.  Our fairy tale doesn’t end there, because on the day of the wedding, our prince charming, who needed six beers to calm enough to have his picture taken, was actually so glad to see Tyler and didn’t drink at all {until the reception, of course}.  And they lived happily ever after!
